The Office for National Statistics produces the Annual Population Survey, a survey of households in the UK. It includes a question on respondents’ country of birth. In 2019 nearly 9.5 million people living in the UK were born abroad, just over 14% of the total population of the UK. Of these, 3.6 million were from countries now in the European Union and 5.9 million were from non-EU countries. Click here to browse the ONS statistics for yourself. This figure of 9.5 million is up from 5.2 million in 2004.

These are ONS estimates. For example as at June 2020 847,000 people living in the UK were born in India and migrated to the UK at some point in their lives.
